Rich in history and built before WWII, the Box Hill Town Hall played a key role in the war effort for the local community. Today the building is described by the Heritage Review as ‘an excellent example of austere classical revival design applied to a major monumental public building.

    The purpose-built, environmentally sensitive design was completed and opened in October 1990. The centre has become a focus for cultural activity within the City of Whitehorse, winning architectural and lifestyle awards in the process.  The centre offers a wide range of services, including activities for adults and children and a wide range of art/craft activities.   • Schwerkolt Cottage

    Open House Melbourne – Schwerkolt Cottage

    Built in 1884, Schwerkolt Cottage is an original pioneer’s stone cottage. The cottage has been restored to its original condition and furnished in the style of the period. The cottage, named after August and Paulina Schwerkolt, who migrated from Germany as newlyweds in 1849, was built from materials found mostly on the site. Visitors can explore the delightful cottage, barn, wine cellar, smokehouse, the orchard and machinery shed.

    Built in 1884, Schwerkolt Cottage is an original pioneer’s stone cottage.
